Player Profile from Match Day Programme. (2002/03 season)

Ed Orgee, in only his second year at The Bees, has been elevated to the position of Captain, a position of Captain, a position that he is rightly proud of.  But with a professional attitude in the squad, Ed doesn't see the task of leadership as burdensome: "It means a lot to me personally and I'm very proud to take on the mantle of Captain.  Whilst I am a little apprehensive about what this means, it may be a cliché, but I'm really looking forward to the challenge".

Ed's playing career started in the mini & junior section at Worcester and this eventually led him to playing for Bristol University.  It was at his time, whilst studying for a degree in Geography, that he began to take his rugby more seriously, culminating in Captaining English Universities.

From University, Ed was taken on by Worcester, but shortly after signing with them an ankle ligament injury out him on the sidelines for 18 mouths.  Following this, he played for a brief period at local rivals, Moseley, before taking a year out to travel the world.  This included playing in New Zealand for Hikurangi, and generally working his way around Australia and the Far East, before returning and signing up for The Bees at the beginning of last season.

Ed's aspirations for the team are to see The Bees ending the season with a top 5 place and being the best semi-professional squad in the country.  But from his own standpoint he has it prominently in his mind that he needs to justify his position in the team by his own performance, and not simply under the label of captaincy.

Reflecting on the first game of the new season against London Welsh, Ed sees significant room for improvement: "Because we'd had a good pre-season, we knew we'd do well.  But whilst the result was good and we defended well throughout, aside of the first 20 minutes we didn't play as well as we know we can.  Some strong positives came out of the performance, however, including seeing a lot of new lads such as Woofy and Luke Smith, getting well with the team".

Outside of rugby, Ed admits he is something of a drifter come backpacker.  Having spent the summer months in the Middle East, Syria, turkey and Jordan, he readily admits that he enjoys his own company.  But mindful as the future, Ed also has one eye on his future career.  With experience of running teambuilding events, and aspirations in the property and finance sectors, Ed is a realist and has his feet firmly on the ground.
